Getting To Know Pixi Beauty's NEW Rose Caviar Essence & Flash Balm (Plus A Touch Of Flower Arranging)

I'm such a flower girl. My flat is usually covered in bunches I've picked up or Josh has come home with just because, while every room has a corner of house plants or a rogue stem or two of hydrangeas I've picked from the garden. There's something about a beautiful bloom that brightens a living space, but I have to admit I've never been that au fait with arranging the things; my usual style is trimming the stems, shoving them in an expensive looking vase and hoping for the best. When the babes over at Pixi Beauty invited myself and Kirsty from Fashion For Lunch to Jane Packer's Flower School for the morning, we jumped at the chance to get our metaphorical floral crowns on. Located in the heart of Marylebone, the store is a delight for the eyes; with so many beautiful seasonal stems on offer, as well as a huge selection of house plants and silk arrangements, I pretty much wanted to buy the whole store and take it home - but instead we got to grips with creating our own bouquet and learning some tips of the trade.

Apparently when it comes to flower arranging we all have a natural left or right side; if you take a singular stem and place another over the top of it angled with the stem to the right, followed by a few more to check, you'll instantly know whether this direction feels natural or awkward. Flip it over and do the same, placing the stems with their base pointing to the left, just to confirm which way you're naturally inclined to create from. This is the secret to a great technique, as you should create your arrangement from the inside out by placing stem over stem in the same direction and twisting 180 degrees every few flowers: it ensures the flowers are both flowing and supporting one another - and it really does make such a difference! We also learned that your arrangement should feature greenery to break up the different types of flower, while big leaves and more greenery placed all around the edges will hold the bouquet together and frame it beautifully. Who knew a great bunch of blooms was so easy to achieve in a few steps?!

Although flower arranging is all fun and photogenic, the reason we were there was to discover the newest rose-infused launches from Pixi. As a big fan of their skincare already, I had high hopes for these little tubes - and I wasn't left disappointed.

Pixi Rose Flash Balm (£26.00)
A 3-in-1 balm that claims to be the ‘ultimate pick-me-up for tired and lackluster skin,’ this velvety smooth cream helps to moisturise and prime the skin - as well as being a revitalising mask when left on for five minutes. Oil and paraben free, it smells gorgeous and is probably one of those products that confuses you initially but becomes a bit of a beauty saviour when you get the hang of it. With ingredients including rose water, olive leaf extract and witch hazel, it soothes and reduces shine while creating a great base pre-foundation. I may not be down with using it as a mask (too much waste!) it's a great tool to have when your skin is looking dull and you want your foundation to sit perfectly. Use just a little though - it goes a long way. 

Pixi Rose Caviar Essence (£26.00) 
Beautiful to look at and a delight to apply, this serum is formulated with antioxidant rich natural oils to soften, refine and tone the skin. The weightless water-like formula melts onto the skin to subtly brighten - while bergamot, sunflower, olive, jojoba, soybean and rose extract keep the skin hydrated and fresh. Although there aren't any traditionally 'anti-ageing' ingredients in here, it's a great all-round skin product that suits all skin types and all ages (especially if you don't like to overload or get on with richer textures.) It's a shame this wasn't launched earlier in the year as it would've been the perfect summer skincare saviour to pack for holidays.

With both of the new skincare products enriched with rose, their scents are subtle but beautifully crafted to leave just a hint of floral that's not too sweet or too rich. Although they're not routine must-haves, they are a delight to use and a welcome addition if you're already a big Pixi fan (or a flower queen at heart.)
