Five Things You Need To Pick Up From Fenty Beauty: The Best Range To Launch All Year!

Are you even a beauty junkie if you haven't been even a little bit interested in the new makeup brand from Rihanna? It landed into Harvey Nicols last week and suffice to say they've never experienced a reception like it: queues around the block even to get into the store, with up to three hour waits just to get colour matched. I've already written about why Fenty Beauty is exactly what the beauty industry needs right now (a diverse, authentic, quality brand that delivers what so many before it failed to do,) but what about the products within the range? RiRi has kept it very much a capsule collection focused on radiant skin and products that help every woman (and man) achieve the complexion they dream of; from primer and foundation, to highlighters, blushers and contouring products, with a range of accessories and finishing touches to choose from, it's easy to get carried away. I've been into store and tried pretty much everything out for myself, and these are the five pieces I think you need to try - before they sell out!

Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (£26.00)
Available in 40 shades, this is undoubtedly the hero of the Fenty range. The texture is incredibly lightweight but very saturated with pigment, meaning you need only a small amount (one or two pumps) to create a flawless base. The semi-matte finish really does last all day and adds a touch of radiance to skin, so much so that the first time I wore it people were commenting on how great my skin looked. I've personally found it to perform even better when applied with the Precision Makeup Sponge, being able to dab it into all contours of my face and build up coverage where I need it most. Definitely my new go-to foundation.

Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick (£21.00)
These delicious shimmer sticks come in a huge range of colours that can be used as blush, bronzer or a simple highlight. The texture is soft and creamy without being oily or overly slippy when applied, leaving a flush of colour on the skin that just catches the light. I picked up Trippin (a peachy golden coral) and Unicorn (a purple tinted highlight - although it was supposed to be Confetti, a gorgeous delicate highlight, but the guy picked up the wrong one!) and I love them probably a bit too much. The peachy tone works beautifully as a blush, adding just a subtle flush of colour to skin, while Unicorn is much more wearable than you think. (I'm wearing both in the picture below.)

Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo (£26.00)
The first thing I picked up, this duo is creamy and rich - everything I want from a powder highlight. Although there's not a huge difference between the shades, one is subtly more golden and warm on the skin; you can either buff both shades across the top of cheekbones using a fluffy brush, or apply more precisely one at a time. For those of you that feel a little intimidated by a stick highlight, or prefer a more understated finish, these duo palettes are utterly gorgeous. (And the packaging aint half bad either!)

Match Stix Matte Skinstick (£21.00)
I have to admit I'm not the biggest daily contourer (is that even a word?) but I do like to embrace a bit of light and shade when I have the time. This grey-toned stick looked a bit scary on the counter, but as soon as the Fenty expert started applying and showing me the difference it could make I was hooked. Applied under the chin, below the bottom lip, down the sides of the nose and into the cheek crease, this creates an understated contrast that instantly slims the face. The trick is to apply only a little and buff it in with the sponge, creating a look that nobody would even know you'd spent time on.

Precision Makeup Sponge (£13.00)
Sponges are my weakness; they really have changed the way I apply makeup and the results I get, providing a more flawless and long-lasting finish that doesn't cake or crease. Although sponges are ten a penny, few stand up to performance (I'm a big fan of Nashy and Barely Cosmetics) and mostly end up in the bin - but this is a game changer. The price may be eye watering, but it's blooming brilliant and can be used to apply all the products from the Fenty range; it's been designed to get into every crease of the face and buff product onto skin without absorbing too much, plus it's great for touch-ups when your skin starts to look a bit shiny. I may have to go back for more.

  2. Do I really though? Dont get me wrong I love the fact that the foundation has several shades, to suit all skin tones out there but there have been so many releases lately I can barely keep up! Whilst I appreciate this may be a great range of products, I'm not rushing out to buy any of it as I simply don't need it :) have I become stingy with makeup?! Maybe I have, but I'd rather spend money elsewhere than pile up on products, when I already have a vast range of things to get through in my dressing table!

For those who have tried the foundation, is it a formula and coverage that would work well for spotty and oily (though not overly so) skin?
