Set To Give Kat Von D A Run For Her Money: Buxom Cosmetics Make A UK Comeback

Ten years ago pin-up girls were the height of fashion, and anything that allowed us to channel our inner vixen was top of the wishlist. However, as the trend faded so did the success of the brands that relied upon it - including Buxom, a really great quality makeup collection that helped to plump lips and create a va-va-voom aura whether you were well endowed in the boob and bum area or not. Back then we bought makeup in a completely different way, restricted to what our high street or local department store had to offer, but skip forward a few years and the growth of online stores has meant our favourite stores have had to evolve to maintain our interests. Great news for those of us that want something fresh and exciting - and even better if you're a Debenhams shopper. They seem to be embracing cult brands and those with a slightly different portfolio to offer right now, getting people through the door with the promise of something to whet their appetites and keep their makeup bags fresh. What's super exciting is that Buxom is back with a new look, a new offering and a new home: in Debenhams beauty departments nationwide.

I remember the name from the first time around (I have to admit I thought it was part of the Bare Minerals offering, but it's actually a stand-alone brand owned by the same parent company - hence the stockist,) so I'm super excited to hear that it's back. Buxom were well established for their lipsticks and glosses, but in 2017 they've updated their portfolio to include mascara, eyeliner, highlighter, bronzer and customiseable eyeshadow palettes that you can fill with six colours of your choice. The eyeshadow formula is highly pigmented and creamy, providing a great payoff and easily blendable texture in forty different shades, while the lip creams provide a super comfortable and long-lasting result in everything from nudes to the pinkest of pinks. My personal favourites include the lip-plumping gloss (which leaves a mild tingle on lips) and mascara, which helps to lift and create volume without clumping, as well as the 'Divine Goddess Luminzer' highlighter - a super creamy and pigmented shimmering formula that can be used on the cheekbones, under brows or even on the decollatage and limbs for a summer glow.

Customiseable palettes are so hot right now (why spend a fortune on a palette only to use two or three shades?) but are often really price prohibitive; Buxom have understood that we want to create something personal without paying a premium, so their eyeshadow palettes can be filled for only £36.00 - a great price for eight individual shades and a super sleek compact. The lipglosses are a justifyable £15.00, while the highlighter is only £21.00 for the biggest tube you could ever desire. Everything about the brand is spot on, from the Kat Von D-esque packaging to the luxe formulas and wearable but powerful shades, so much so that I'm sure it'll make an impact and give brands such as Makeup Forever and Urban Decay a run for their money; if you love the look and feel of Kat Von D, Buxom also provides a slightly cheaper alternative without compromising on quality. Bonus.

So many things in the beauty world have failed to light my fire of late, but for the first time in ages I actually feel excited for the possibility a new launch can bring: tonnes of colour, affordable efficacy, sleek sexy packaging and a sprinkling of fun. What more could a girl ask for?

Do you remember Buxom from the first time around? Will you be checking them out this summer?

  2. I knew Buxom were coming back to the UK but for some reason I thought their products only went as far as lip products. The eyeshadow palette sounds like a great buy, especially as you get to customise the palette.
