THE LOOK
Right now I'm having a bit of a wardrobe crisis. My heart says I was to embrace the summer dresses and pastel tones, but my head is telling me to stick to layers and keep my feet toastie in a pair of good boots. I've transitioned backwards to the outfits I was wearing in January, while looking for a way to prevent the boredom setting in when I once again reach for a jumper and pair of black jeans: the result is floral dresses that are dark enough to match a leather jacket and fun enough to keep me feeling positive. I found this dress while browsing ASOS (when am I ever wearing something not from ASOS?) and it ticks all the boxes I needed - including a statement sleeve that I can't get enough of. Although it's a bit too short for me and reveals my hated knees (I don't think I've ever loved this area of my body, even when many dress sizes smaller) I loved the neckline and the statement sleeves enough to say 'the hell with it'.
THE ACCESSORIES
These cute little blue velvet boots were an impulse purchase some time ago, but the shade and fabric makes them perfect for transitioning into a new season. Sometimes a black boot is too heavy and too 'wintery', but these I feel are a lighter and more colour-friendly alternative. Navy velvet has a touch of the retro about it and it's a trend that is still all over the high street: ASOS have a huge selection of velvet boots in their sale right now if you fancy stocking up while the weather is still gloomy. (They also look great with a maxi dress.) I paired this with a much loved but much-underused burgundy fringed bag from Burberry that I picked up at Bicester Village for a fraction of the original cost. When I originally saw it on the catwalk I fell in love, but the £2500 price tag made me weep; who can justify spending that on anything that doesn't involve diamonds or engines? What I love about Bicester is that you can find things you genuinely have had your eye on for a fraction of the cost (this was reduced to £450) which gives you the ultimate buzz. I adore the colour, the fringing and the bucket style that's big enough to fit in all my essentials - and I know it will be coming out more as we step into spring.
THE GLASSES
Geek chic has never been cooler, and these are my latest pair of specs that I picked up from Specsavers. Part of the Kylie Minogue collection (yep, she's designed a range of glasses!) they're effortlessly chic while being incredibly affordable: only £99.00 on a 'buy one pair get one pair free' deal. I really love the shape of the frame and the colour of the plastic, plus they're super comfy and add a certain edge even when I'm just dressing for the gym. Considering the sun hasn't come out in days, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to swap out my usual sunnies for a pair of specs! (Read my post on top tips for makeup wearers here!)
THE EXTRA BITS
I'm becoming a bit of a watch fiend and my collection is ever expanding, but this classic style and colour from Olivia Burton is a firm favourite; I especially like the fact my initials are embossed on the strap and the rose gold detailing matches my favourite accessories - including my Pandora bracelet and Accessorize ring (which is such a great copy of the classic Monica Vinader style that everyone assumes that's what it is!) I've also rediscovered many of my favourite pieces of initial jewellery, including this super delicate 'H' necklace from Orelia which was only £18.00. It's all about the little things (and anything with my name on it.)I hope you like my outfit... And that I've encouraged you to worry less about showing yourself looking less than perfect. We all have things we don't like about ourselves, but that doesn't mean we should always hide them. Embrace your body and all it has to offer, because you've only got one.
